Description:
Norma Chang enjoys working with all age groups - adults, kids, teens and tweens. She conducts cultural programs for kids and healthy eating programs for adults, teens/tweens and parents.
Norma presents demonstrations and workshops for libraries, schools, television, hospitals, garden clubs, festivals and many other community organizations and businesses.
Norma is a food lover who enjoys sharing her skills and ideas with others through her many food-related activities. She is the author/publisher of "My Students' Favorite Chinese Recipes Updated Edition, ISBN0961875941" and "Wokking Your Way to Low Fat Cooking, ISBN0961875917". Two user-friendly cookbooks containing classroom-tested recipes organized with the busy cook in mind and containing many useful kitchen hints, time-saving tips and do-ahead information.
Norma is also an avid gardener specializing in growing Asian vegetables.
Norma believes cooking should be fun. The food you prepare and eat should not only be good for you but look and taste good too. This philosophy is reflected in her cookbooks, demonstrations and workshops.

2011 SUMMER READING PROGRAM - "ONE WORLD, MANY STORIES"
***WHERE IN THE WORLD IS SHANGHAI????? GEOGRAPHY VIA FOOD***
Children will learn many interesting facts about China while locating major cities and provinces on a map of China given to each participant. Learn about giant pandas, the Great Wall and other well known destinations. Discover the geographical differences and similarities between the United States and China. Book a fun trip around the world to find the 10 most popular countries. This program includes cooking demonstration and tasting.

2011 SUMMER READING PROGRAM - "ONE WORLD, MANY STORIES"
***A LITTLE TASTE OF CHINA***
Children get a glimpse into the life of a Chinese family living in China during show-&-tell of various everyday items. Compare the differences and similarities of school supplies and household objects used in China and the United States. Learn about different Chinese vegetables and ingredients that are becoming readily available at local supermarkets. This program includes cooking demonstration and tasting.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS -- "CHINESE CULTURE & CUSTOMS"
Using a fun and interactive approach, Norma engages children to explore the history, traditions, art and geography of China. Norma will customize her program to suit each organization's theme and the age group of the participants. Norma encourages parents to attend the programs with their children. Below are 4 children's programs Norma offer.

***CHINESE NEW YEAR & THE 12 ZODIAC ANIMALS -- Discover the folktales and mythologies associated with the New Year celebration along with a lively, interactive show-&-tell of items connected to the festivities. Each participating child will receive a "hong bow", a red envelope with lucky money. (limited to 50 children, no limits for parents)

***TANGRAM, THE 7 MAGIC SHAPES -- Tangram, an ancient Chinese puzzle known also as "the wisdom puzzle" and "7 pieces of cleverness" is a square cut into 7 geometric shapes or tans which can be re-arranged to form other shapes. Aided by various display boards, participants will fit together the 7 magic shapes to form various objects including animals, people and everyday items.
Tangram is a classic puzzle that appeals to all; the young and old, the serious and carefree. Children, with their natural curiosity and abundant creativity, can have fun arranging the 7 tans into an incredible number of objects while developing spatial pattern recognition and coordination skills.
Each participant will be given a set of tangram to work with during the program.
Each participant will receive a tangram and illustration sheet to take home.

FAMILY PROGRAM (OR ADULTS ONLY)
***SHE GOT MY KID TO EAT CAULIFLOWER!!!!! Yes, the kid ate cauliflower and broccoli and carrots and ... This is a fun and interactive program encouraging children to eat healthy. Parents are introduced to easy and low-fat but high-flavor recipes. Also do-able creative ideas to serve vegetables that kids will eat and ask for more. Plus ideas on incorporating nuts and fruits in the diet. Program available WITH tasting (group size: 40) or WITHOUT tasting (group size: unlimited).

Program lengths: 45 - 60 minutes
Program cost: $250 - $300 travel may apply
Audience size: no limit (except where noted)
Room setup: 2 long tables. Children on floor, adults on chairs.

TEENS/TWEENS & PARENTS
*** Easy to Create 'Real' Dishes -- A demonstration program (limited hands-on for teens/tweens) with tasting, focusing on easy to create 'real' dishes with emphasis on healthy cooking using fresh, natural ingredients and the benefits of using seasonally available produce. Participants will learn how to make substitutions to recipes to accommodate their individual taste and dietary restrictions along with do-ahead ideas, time saving tips and kitchen hints to make cooking enjoyable and stress-free. A great opportunity for teens/tweens and parents to spend time together in the kitchen and develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.

Program lengths: 90 minutes
Program cost: $290 - $300 (travel may apply)
Audience size: 40 limit with tasting
Room setup: 2 long tables near electrical outlets, 2 - 3 waste baskets, chairs for participants (Norma brings her electrical woks, does not require kitchen facilities.)

ADULTS' PROGRAMS -- "TIME-SAVING, NO-FUSS, LOW-FAT CHINESE COOKING"
Weaving time-saving tips and helpful hints into her presentation, Norma enthusiastically demystifies Chinese cooking for her audience and introduces participants to practical easy-to-prepare recipes with emphasis on low-fat, high-flavor and nutrition.
